12/28/2022 0 Comments Os x el capitan won t install![]() No useful error message, just that I do not have permission for the action.īy default /usr/local does not exist on fresh installs of OS X 10.5 to 10.10. So my conclusion was that there is a permission problem with creating the folders. I still do not have write permission to /usr. ![]() The files are now where they are supposed to be, with SYSTEM being the owner. I did not have any such problems on my other Macs where I installed libdvdcss.pgk and OSXfuse before upgrading to El Capitan. The way I finally solved it was to install Yosemite on an external hard disk, started up from the external, set up Handbrake and OSXfuse on there, and use Migration Assistant to import a user with all his settings from that external hard disk (funnily enough trying to put the user onto the iMac FROM the external did not work). I tried to copy it over from a different Mac but again without success (as expected). ![]() I tried to create it via the Finder as well as via the terminal (trying su and sudo) but was told I do not have permission (even as administrator). I tried to directly copy libdvdcss.2.dylib to the /usr/local/lib folder but found that it did not exist. However some apps would no longer install, namely I could not install the libdvdcss.pkg (required by Handbrake to rip my copy-protected DVDs to my Mediathek), nor OSXfuse. Had some problems with Mail and iPhotos but solved them in the end. Baaaad, guys.I upgraded my cousin's iMac which had MacOS X 10.6.8 Snow Leo installed straight up to MacOS X 10.11.1 El Capitan (yes, the new beta, and yes, might not have been the smartest move on my part). I explained the problem, they gave me a telephone appointment for the next day, and never called back. I called their support number (I live in Italy), a representative answered from Greece. I was lucky - my son had a MacBook 2008 just like the one I was trying to upgrade, and he graciously lent me a working backup disk to do this with.Īpple's response to the problem was highly unsatisfactory. ![]() erase the original user's data and put in your own info. Clone the USB disk with CCC to the Mac you're trying to upgrade. Clone the other Mac's HD on a USB disk with CarbonCop圜loner, making sure the clone is bootable (include a working copy of CCC in the process). find a computer with installed MacOS 10.11. The only solution that worked was complicated and klutzy: 1. Another error message popped up, and said that my installation file was "probably corrupted" (freshly donwloaded from the Apple Store). Setting back the date to 2015 did not work for me. ![]()
